Life Inspired’s signature travel series ‘Stopover’ returns with Indo-French host Hannah Al Rashid taking her very own three day two night staycation in her own turf, Jakarta.
Getting away from the hustle and bustle of Jakarta’s infamous traffic jam, Hannah checks into The Hermitage – formerly a Dutch telecommunications office turned boutique hotel in the heart of Jakarta’s most prestigious district, Menteng.
For a good dose of arts and culture, Hannah took a short walk from The Hermitage to Jakarta Antiques Market where a myriad of woodcarvings, textiles and antiques are sold, before heading to the less commercial Art:1, a gallery and museum showcasing the works of both Indonesian masters and contemporary artists in Kemayoran.
A staycation without good food is like bread without jam, as Hannah samples a 17-course menu at Namaaz Dining – Indonesia’s first Molecular gastronomy restaurant by Chef Andrian Ishak. For something more conventional, Hannah also visits E&O, a collaboration between chef Will Meyrick of Sarong in Bali and the creators of Union & Loewy, where a rendition of Thai-Vietnamese cuisine is served.
To stay fit, Hannah tees off at the Senayan National Golf Club where the Vice President of Indonesia often plays, and checks out the car-free day, where two of Jakarta’s busiest roads in the CBD are closed off to 100,000 cyclists and runners every Sunday from 6am to 11am.
As Hannah’s staycation comes to a close, some royal treatment is due, with Hannah visiting Taman Sari Royal Heritage Spa for a massage before heading to 56th floor Skye for a drink with spectacular views of Jakarta’s skyline.
