The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Announced with 7 from Asia
11 April 2017
Now in its 15th year, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants showcases a broad cross-section of cultures and cuisines that includes restaurants from 22 countries across five continents. After votes from The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, an influential group of over 1,000 international leaders in the restaurant community, Eleven Madison Park claimed the No.1 spot and earned dual titles of The World’s Best Restaurant and The Best Restaurant in North America. The restaurant made its debut on the list in 2010 and has then hovered within the top 10 since 2012, rising to No. 3 last year.
Asia counts seven restaurants in the 2017 line-up, with Japan and Thailand each boasting two entries. After claiming the No.1 position for a third consecutive year at Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants awards ceremony in February, Gaggan in Bangkok rises 16 places to No. 7 to claim The Best Restaurant in Asia title. Another Thai restaurant that made the list is Nahm, also in Bangkok, holding the 28th position. Both restaurants were featured in our original series, Taste Bangkok.
Besides that, Singapore’s Restaurant Andréclimbs an impressive 18 places to secure the No. 14 spot after coming in second in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurant list.
Other Asian restaurants that made list also include Ultraviolet by Paul Pairetin in Shanghai at No. 41, Amber in Hong Kong with the 24th position, Narisawa in Tokyo at No.18, while Den in Tokyo, the 2016 recipient of the Miele One To Watch Award, arrives on the list at No. 45.
